Whiteheads look like small white bumps and are usually about the size of a pinhead. They form under the skin as the follicles are more and more congested and enlarged. Whitehead never reach the surface of the skin or open. That is why they are called closed comedones.
Blackheads, on the other side are closed comedones, which continue to grow up until they break through the skin surface. At this point, the enlarged hair is visible and open to the skin surface. For this reason, blackheads are known as open comedones. (more…)
